Soap Making Animal fat gives you a good, hard bar of soap that won’t turn to glop as soon as it gets wet. Tallow (beef fat), goat fat or lard (pig fat) are often used by experienced soap makers. There’s no reason why elk, moose or other large animals couldn’t be used; these three fats are just more readily-available.
